A new survey provides more definitive data. Canadian corporate counsel looking for concrete information on compensation issues were delighted last autumn when CCCA unveiled the results of the eagerly awaited CCCA In-House Counsel Compensation & Career Survey 2009. In what is intended to become an annual survey,CCCA part- nered with the legal recruitment firm The Counsel Network, who commissioned Ipsos Reid,to create the essential Canadian reference for corporate counsel compensation. The first ever undertaken in Canada, the comprehensive CCCA compensation survey provides in-house counsel with the kind of targeted information required for furthering career growth and development. “We are very excited to be able to provide our members with current, relevant information on compensation matters, designed specifically to reflect the in-house counsel experience,” says Derek Patterson, CCCA president. Until the survey initiative, corporate counsel generally relied on anecdotal information with respect to Canadian in-house counsel compensation. “Anecdotal evidence seemed to suggest certain themes and bench- marks that drive the profession. Yet there was no definitive Canadian information,” says Patterson. HIVER 2009 CCCA Canadian Corporate Counsel Association 19
