With offices in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and affiliates worldwide, the legal recruitment firm “constantly receives inquiries from corporate coun- sel and human resource departments looking for direction as to in-house counsel compensation.” “Until now, we could only give ‘real time advice’ along with our opinion as to what was going on in the market in terms of ranges and compensation pack- ages,” says Bhathal.“But as a legal head- hunting firm, we could only give broad information, since we cannot disclose where the information is coming from due to confidentiality issues.” Bhathal says that the In-House Counsel Compensation & Career Survey looks at the issues in a general way by identifying trends. “In the future [for this annual survey] we will hone in on more specific issues,” says Bhathal. “We will identify some of the issues that need to be delved into more deeply, after consultation with CCCA and feedback from individual in- house counsel and employers.” Barry M.
